Georgetown County School District appoints interim superintendent

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – While the search for a new superintendent continues, the Georgetown County School District has appointed an interim superintendent.

The district confirmed that Superintendent Keith Price was named the superintendent-elect for the Lexington County School District One for the 2024-2025 school year. His last day will be June 30.

On Tuesday, the board announced Dr. Bethany A. Giles will take on the role on July 1. Giles is currently the Deputy Superintendent for the district since she was appointed last year.

“The Board is confident in Dr. Giles’ ability to serve as interim superintendent,” shared GCSD Board Chair William Gaskins. “She is very familiar with GCSD, and we look forward to working with her as we move through this transition period and work to identify the next permanent superintendent.”

Gaskins said Giles brings 23 years of experience in public education, all with Georgetown County School District, including her current position as Deputy Superintendent. She is currently working on leadership training through The Center for Executive Education Leadership.

A Georgetown County native, Giles is an Andrews High School graduate. She has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University and a Master’s from The Citadel in educational leadership.

The board is continuing to search for a permanent replacement for Price and said they will post for superintendent by June 1 and have a name by mid-October.

Community members, parents, and families will be allowed to provide input, those details will be released in the coming weeks.
