GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – The search is on for a new superintendent in the Georgetown County School District.

The district confirmed that Superintendent Keith Price was named the superintendent-elect for the Lexington County School District One for the 2024-2025 school year.

“The District is thankful for Mr. Price’s leadership and is grateful for his vision and dedication over the last four years,” the Georgetown County School District said in a statement.

According to WIS, our sister station in Columbia, Price will work alongside the current superintendent of Lexington County School District One for a full year from July 1, 2024 through 2025. Once the year is over, Price will become the full-time superintendent and will sign a four-year contract.

William Gaskins, the chairman for the Georgetown County School District’s Board of Trustees, said having Price move to another district is a great loss but ensures the board will work hard to find a good replacement.

Gaskins said the first step will be to find a consulting firm to guide the board through the process, which may include appointing an interim superintendent.

“Please be assured that the Board recognizes the importance of continuity and stability during this transition process as we seek the best candidate for the position,” Gaskins said. “Our goals is to find an individual who shares our values, mission, and commitment to the students, staff, and families of Georgetown County School District.”

Price’s last day with the district is June 30.
