MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Our break from the storm chances didn’t last long with this active weather pattern. We’re giving you the First Alert to scattered storms through the weekend. A few storms have the potential to bring strong winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain.

Clouds will increase throughout the day, but rain chances remain slim.

As we head into the late afternoon and evening hours, we only expect a few showers to develop. Highs will climb into the upper 70s to lower 80s despite the increasing cloud cover throughout the day.

Our next system will bring a higher humidity and plenty of moisture into the Carolinas for the upcoming weekend.

Rain chances will be in the forecast through the entire weekend as the low pressure system moves across the area. Expect mostly cloudy skies throughout the weekend with scattered showers off and on throughout the day. The latest data this morning suggests the best chances look to arrive during both afternoon and evening hours for Saturday and Sunday.

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted Saturday afternoon and evening, for the potential of a couple strong storms bringing the threat of strong winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

At this point, this system doesn’t scream widespread severe weather. An isolated strong storm or two cannot be ruled out, but the weekend looks just wet and stormy from time to time.

As we head into Sunday, we’ll hold onto the elevated chance of showers and storms at 60%. There’s enough lift to support showers and storms through most of the day with mostly cloudy skies. While no day this weekend will be a washout, we will see waves of showers and storms passing through the area from time to time.
