Nikki Haley makes one of her final SC campaign stops in Moncks Corner ahead of Republican primary
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WIS) - It’s the final stretch of campaigning in South Carolina for Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley ahead of the First-In-the-South Republican Primary.
The former South Carolina governor made one of two campaign stops Friday in Moncks Corner in Berkeley County.
One of her final pitches to voters was to get out and vote for her in the Republican primary.
It’s the race that’s being watched across the country as neither Haley nor her rival, GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, have ever lost in the Palmetto State. But for one of them, that’s going to change tomorrow.
“It’s a great day in South Carolina,” said Haley.
She spoke for about an hour on Friday, starting off her remarks touting her accomplishments as the former governor of South Carolina.
“We announced jobs in every county in the state, by the time I left, we were building planes with Boeing, we were building more BMW’s than any place in the world, we brought in Mercedes Benz, we brought in Volvo, five international companies, they were referring to us as the beast of the southeast,” she said.
She also spoke on the latest immigration bill to fail in the Senate, arguing it wasn’t tough enough because it had a 5,000 person threshold.
“We can’t even have a one-person threshold,” she said. “But the problem with all of that is, Congress needed to get into a room, strengthen it, and not leave until they got the job done. And what did they do, they went on a two-week vacation.”
She also spoke on her plans if elected president, which included tightening immigration laws and border security. She also vowed to take federal resources and put them back in the state. While recent polls showed Haley trailing GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, her supporters are still confident in her ability to win.
“She’s going to wear Trump out, I believe,” said supporter Walter Hunts.
“We’re hopeful, we’re putting our attention and vote and support to where we think it needs to be,” said another supporter.
Haley wrapped up her rally in Moncks Corner by telling her supporters that Trump can’t win in the upcoming general election.
“Look at every single poll he’s down by five, he’s down by seven,” she said. “There was a Marquette poll that came out this week. He was the margin of error, dead even, with Joe Biden. In that same poll, and all the others, I defeat Joe Biden by 18 points.”
The Daily Beast also reported Friday that for the first time, Haley’s campaign outraised Trump’s, bringing in more than $11 million in January while Trump brought in $8 million.
