CHICAGO, Ill. (WBBM) – A mother in Chicago said her son’s teacher was out of line for allegedly cutting his hair without permission.

Taisa Glass said she noticed some of her 7-year-old son’s hair missing when she picked him up from school last week, and now she wants answers.

“It’s not just hair. This is part of him. This is part of his body, part of his identity,” Glass said of her son Montel Gould.

Last week at school, Glass said one of his friends dared Montel to cut his hair, so a few strands were missing.

But the next day his braid was gone, allegedly cut by a teacher.

“He came up to me and said, ‘My teacher cut my braid. I told her no,’” Glass said.

For unknown reasons, Glass claims Montel’s teacher decided to clip the long braid that hung over his face.

“I was very angry,” his mother said.

When Glass tried to get answers from the school, she said she was given no explanation. She filed a report with the Chicago Police Department and an incident report with Child Protective Services.

As the mother waits for a better understanding, CPS said, “We take any allegation of inappropriate employee conduct very seriously. School and district officials are working to support the affected student.”

CPS officials added that a review of the incident is already underway.
