ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The Town of Atlantic Beach now has a new interim police chief.

Officer Carlos Castillo was sworn in as the town’s current chief, Quentin Robinson, remains on administrative leave following an arrest last month.

“I love it here. It’s an amazing atmosphere and we’re striving to get better,” said Castillo, who joined the department in 2022.

Prior to joining Atlantic Beach, Castillo spent time at other law enforcement departments. He currently leads two other officers in the department.

With Atlantic Beach BikeFest days away, Castillo says the town will be ready with the assistance of other agencies.

“We have a mutual aid agreement with [the] Lake City Police Department. There are also officers coming in from SLED, Highway Patrol, Parole, and DNR,” said Castillo.

Councilman John David told WMBF News that Castillo has his support heading into the new role.

“I have full confidence in his ability to do a fine job to get us through bike week. We will keep moving forward as a town working together,” said David.

Castillo also has some advice for those hitting the road to Atlantic Beach.

“Drivers and bikers, make sure you look over your shoulder. Make sure the lanes are clear before changing lanes. Make sure you watch out for pedestrians as well who cross Highway 17,” he said.
