‘It’s wonderful’: PGA golfers visit hospital patients ahead of Myrtle Beach Classic
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - Some PGA Tour golfers came to the Myrtle Beach Classic to do more than just golf.
While in the Grand Strand, Ryan McCormick and Sean O’Hair swung by the Grand Strand Medical Center to provide encouragement for the hospital’s inpatient rehabilitation center.
“It was very nice of them to come, I’m very humble,” said June Marcolini, a patient in the program.
Several patients said meeting golf pros was like hitting a hole-in-one.
“This is what a big part of the PGA Tour is about, giving back to the community,” said O’Hair.
During their time at the hospital patients asked the players questions like who they look up to the most in the sport.
”For me, it’s hard to say anybody other than Tiger [Woods]. I grew up when he was in his prime,” said McCormick.
Patients also got to take photos and visit with the players.
“It’s wonderful, how nice for us, we’re sitting up here for our rehab and they want to come see us,” said Marcolini.
Marcolini has been in the hospital for several weeks. While she gets to return home on Friday, she said the visit from the pros lifted her spirits.
“It’s wonderful, how nice for us, we’re sitting up here for our rehab and they want to come see us,” she said.
McCormick and O’Hair even signed her cast.
”My brothers are going to be so jealous, they’re avid golfers,” said Marcolini.
The pros also said it made them feel good to be a part of the patients’ recovery journey.
“I love what I do and I’m fortunate to do what I do and if I can improve someone’s day because they’re into golf, I’m all for it,” said O’Hair.
