HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - Horry County will soon be looking for a new administrator as its current one plans to retire at the end of the year.

Administrator Steve Gosnell has extended his contract through Dec. 31 and plans to retire at that point, according to Horry County spokesperson Mikayla Moskov.

In an email he sent to his employees, Gosnell cited he wants to focus on family and the next stage of his life.

Gosnell had been with the county for 31 years and was named the county administrator in July 2019.

“I will miss working with you to develop innovative solutions and strategies to address the many challenges facing Horry County such as managing unprecedented growth, delivering Public Safety services to a growing population, implementing an aggressive capital project/infrastructure program and managing the County’s 100+ facilities,” Gosnell writes in his email.

Gosnell told his employees the challenges in Horry County are only going to continue, but they are ready to meet those challenges.

According to Horry County’s website, the administrator oversees over 30 departments in the county.

Until his retirement, Gosnell said he and his staff will focus on managing new developments, budgets, finishing Ride 3 projects and getting Ride 4 to voters for approval.
