Deputies arrest Summerton man accused in Pee Dee murder after months-long investigation

DILLON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - After a multi-agency effort, a Summerton man has been arrested in connection to a deadly shooting two months ago in Dillon County.
Dillon County Sheriff’s Office confirmed 63-year-old Monte Lee Armstrong was arrested after an extensive investigation with the assistance of Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, 4th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, ATF, and the Assistant United States Attorney’s Office.
Armstrong’s arrest is connected to the shooting death of Quentin Standford Berry. On March 21 just before 10 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Amherst Court where they found Berry suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Berry later died from his injuries.
On Monday, months later, deputies were able to identify the suspect as Armstrong and obtain arrest warrants. He faces charges including possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a weapon after being convicted of possession with intent to distribute and murder.
Armstrong is being held at the Dillon County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
The investigation is still active, anyone with information is asked to contact DCSO Detective Michael Barfield at 843-774-1432.
