DILLON COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - A Pee Dee woman was sentenced to prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to the assault of an 83-year-old victim.

Fourth Circuit Assistant Solicitor Shipp Daniel said 37-year-old Joanna Mack pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Daniel said the charge was linked to a July 2022 incident where Mack “brutally assaulted” the victim.

A judge sentenced Mack to 17 years in prison following her guilty plea. Mack will be required to serve at least 85% of her sentence, per state law.

“This was a senseless act of violence,” Daniel said in a statement. “There is nothing the criminal justice system can do to restore the victim’s family, but today we got some amount of justice. We are thankful to the court for its tough sentence.”
