HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – There’s an active investigation underway into how two boys ended up at a stranger’s home in the Socastee area.

A police report states that Horry County police were called around 12:30 a.m. Monday to a home in the 6300 block of Bay Road off of Highway 707 for a call about abandoned children.

The caller told police she heard someone knocking on the side door and she saw two children. When she opened the front door, one of the boys tried to walk inside and told the woman they were cold and hungry. The boys added that they didn’t know who dropped them off or where they were.

According to the report, the younger boy told officers they were dropped off at a Dunkin Donuts on Sunday while the sun was still going down before they walked to the home on Bay Road.

“Both victims stated that they didn’t know the man that dropped them off,” the report states. “Both victims stated that the person who dropped them off is the one that kept them locked in a room for extended periods during the previous summer.”

In the police report, officers noted that the two boys were “abnormally skinny” and had several cuts on them, possible skin infections and bruises mostly on their backs.

“When asked about their eating habits Victim1 (sic) stated that they are given one peanut butter sandwich about every 1-2 days,” according to the police report.

The two boys were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The police report states that officers spoke to three people listed as “suspects.” But the report does not reveal where officers went to speak with the suspects.

One man told officers that he heard the boys leave from the front door and saw them walking towards the entrance gate. The report claims that the man went to try and find the boys but they were out of sight by the time he got to the car.

A second suspect told officers that the boys had been in his care for about five years with a total of nine children currently living at the home.

According to the report and Horry County police, no arrests have been made in the case.
