HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - One Grand Strand hospital wants to show its commitment to the future healthcare workforce.

Conway Medical Center with Novant Health is donating $1,050,000 to the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Foundation.

This money will go toward the HGTC Nursing and Health Sciences Institute, supporting the expansion of the college’s healthcare education facility on the Grand Strand Campus.

“The building will be central to empowering individuals, changing lives, and reshaping communities by impacting 30% of the HGTC student body, those enrolled in health sciences, while contributing to the local workforce each year by providing graduates who are highly skilled,” a news release reads.

The college said in total, the expansion will cost $15 million but will add 24,100 square feet to the facility by the end of 2025.

Part of the donation from Conway Medical Center will go to creating a CMC Foundation Student Lounge and Study area on the second floor of the building. Several other areas in the building will also be named after the hospital.

Conway Medical Center President and CEO Brian Argo said the hospital has seen first the high-quality education HGTC’s students receive when they come to work at the hospital.

“We are so excited to partner with HGTC as we work together to train the healthcare workers of tomorrow,” Argo said. “...We believe our support of this new facility will continue to improve healthcare education in our community.”

Another part of the donation includes a $150,000 endowed scholarship for Healthcare Sciences “to help top-performing students further their education,” the news release reads.

“This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in our commitment to enhancing healthcare education and workforce development,” HGTC President Dr. Marilyn Murphy Fore said. “...We look forward to the continued success of this partnership as we collectively work towards shaping the healthcare workers of tomorrow.”
