Teen girl accused of breaking into Florence home, fighting police during arrest
FLORENCE, S.C. (WMBF) - A teenage girl is in custody after allegedly breaking into a home early Friday in Florence.
The Florence Police Department said officers responded to a welfare check on Cheraw Drive at around 8 a.m., where a door was found open.
The homeowner, who was not at the scene, then contacted police said they believed someone was inside the home who shouldn’t be there. Police were then permitted to search the home, where they found the 17-year-old inside.
According to police, the teen “became combative and fought with officers” when they tried to detain her. She’s also accused of kicking the windows of a police vehicle once she was placed inside.
The juvenile is charged with burglary, resisting arrest and threatening a public official. Police said she was transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice where she awaits a hearing.
