Trial scheduled for teen accused of opening fire at Conway police officer
HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – An attempted murder suspect will stay behind bars until his trial in August.
A judge denied bond for 19-year-old Tywrell Alston on Thursday afternoon. It’s the third time the teen has been denied bond since he first appeared in court in January 2023.
He’s accused of firing shots at a Conway police officer during a chase in December 2022.

Body camera footage shows Alston fired his gun eight times, while the officer fired his gun at least a dozen times.
The officer was not hurt. Alston was hit and taken to the hospital. He was released in January 2023 and taken to jail where he has been ever since.
During Thursday afternoon’s bond hearing, Alston spoke to the judge and said that he was shot 10 times during the shootout with the officer and is still recovering. He said he isn’t being given the proper care in jail.
“I’m scared that bullet lodged in my right arm could move again if I’m not careful because by my artery,” Alston explained.
The judge told Alston that if his case isn’t tried in August then they can revisit the bond issue.
Alston’s trial is scheduled for August 19.
