SCHP: 1 dead, 4 injured after car flips into water-filled ditch in Longs area

One person has died after an afternoon crash on Monday in the Longs area.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – One person has died after an afternoon crash on Monday in the Longs area.

Horry County Fire Rescue said it was called to the wreck just after noon in the area of East Highway 9 near the Waccamaw River in the Longs area.

Horry County Fire Rescue said a car flipped into a ditch filled with water.

It added that while five people were sent to the hospital, one of them suffered critical injuries.

Lcpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the 2014 Kia Sorrento was heading north on Highway 9 when it veered off the road and flipped. One of the passengers in the car later died from their injuries.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 37-year-old Charleston Morris, of Linden, North Carolina. The coroner said he was not restrained at the time of the crash and died from multiple traumatic injuries.

One lane of Loris-bound traffic was closed while first responders investigated and cleared the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.

The North Myrtle Beach Police Department helped out at the crash site.
