HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Horry County Fire Rescue held a grand opening for the third fire station the agency has opened this year.

This time, the new station, Fire Station 4, resides in the Forestbrook area on Burcale Road.

The entire building is hurricane-rated, meaning it can withstand 180 miles per hour winds.

This station also has the county’s first fire bus/multi-patient unit. It’s essentially a large ambulance that can carry up to 11 people.

The bus was given to HCFR by Coast RTA and then refurbished into an ambulance.

“Horry County is a growing county, the biggest and largest and fastest growing, and the best in the United States, so what are we doing? We’re growing to accommodate that and keep people safer,” Horry County Council Chairman Johnny Gardner said.

The station will have 12 full-time employees plus volunteers.
