Darren Nelson, Tournament Director of the Myrtle Beach Classic, told the Myrtle Beach Special Events Committee during a meeting on Wednesday that 18,000 tickets have been sold for the inaugural event.

He added those tickets sold were spread across the entirety of the tournament, which will be played May 9-12 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. Organizers also hope to have at least 10,000 people at the event each day - with Nelson saying they tend to sell most tickets in the month leading up to the tournament.

“Ticket sales are going great, we’ve been online since December and we’re over about 18,000 total tickets sold for the event and usually about 50% of ticket sales come in about the last month, so we’re on a good pace right now,” said Nelson.

Nelson also provided an update on parking, telling WMBF News that around 2,300 spots will be available at the old Myrtle Square Mall site with a shuttle taking fans to the course. No parking will be allowed along Ocean Boulevard.

Matt Clark, the director of operations for SportFive, said the shuttle process will be easy and constant throughout the day.

“We’ll have a few different shuttle pickups throughout the lot, people will be encouraged to not take any prohibited items or things like that,” said Clark. “There will be plenty of buses to get people to the event, not too long of a wait time and it’s probably about a 10 to 12 minute round trip to the Dunes Club.”

No backpacks will be allowed, either; but a clear bag policy will be in place. A security check will also take place at the course.

Parking passes will be $15 per day with no weekly pass options.

Nelson said organizers are also working with those who live at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club to get passes so they can get into their homes.
