ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WMBF) - A Red Springs man already in custody for various drug-related charges, now faces new charges connected to the death of his mother.

33-year-old Salvador Bello Morales was arrested on May 13 in Red Springs after Robeson County deputies conducted a search connected to the death investigation of 52-year-old Catalina Morales-Carrios, later identified as his mother.

Morales was arrested for a slew of drug and gun charges, along with two other men. 24-year-old Fernando Bello Morales and Jacob Madrid Gomez, of Red Springs, were also arrested during the search.

Morales-Carrios was shot in a home in Shannon on April 30. When deputies arrived on the scene they learned Morales-Carrios was taken in a personal car to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.

On Wednesday, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said Salvador now faces a second-degree murder charge connected to his mother’s death.

Salvador was denied bond and remains at the Robeson County Detention Center. His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.

The United States Immigration Customs Enforcement is assisting with the investigation.

RSCO said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are likely.
