FIRST ALERT: Downpours and gusty winds arrive Thursday
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A storm system will deliver gusty winds and downpours through the day Thursday, before sunny weather returns for the weekend.
STORMY THURSDAY
An approaching cold front will bring a round of rain, downpours, isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds on Thursday. Rain will start to overspread the region through the morning commute and will likely be heavy at times. The periods of rain will continue through midday before gradually starting to taper off the mid afternoon hours.
A few thunderstorms remain possible on Thursday, but the overall risk of severe storms continues to lower. A LEVEL 1 risk remains in place for the entire area. Rain and clouds will keep the atmosphere relatively stable through most of the day. Still, a few thunderstorms with wind gusts to 50 mph will be possible in isolated spots.
Even without any strong storms, gusty winds will blow through much of the day. Wind gusts near 25 to 30 mph in the morning will increase to 30 to 40 mph by midday into the afternoon. A few gusts to 45 mph will be possible near the beaches.
Rainfall totals will likely reach to near an inch in most locations with higher amounts to two inches possible closer to the coast.

IMPROVING INTO THE WEEKEND
A cold front will blow the active weather off shore by Thursday evening. In it’s wake drier air will blow in on a gusty wind Friday. The result will be sunny skies and temperatures in the lower 70s. The weekend looks spectacular with sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the middle and upper 70s.
