FIRST ALERT: Clouds return, strong storms possible Thursday
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Clouds only increase throughout the day with our next big weather maker arriving on Thursday as a cold front moves through the Carolinas.
DENSE FOG ADVISORY
The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for our area. This will stay in effect up until 9 a.m. As you are heading out the door this morning drive with caution as dense fog in place for most of us.

CLOUDY STRETCH
Clouds quickly increase, leading to mostly cloudy skies through the middle of the week.
Despite the clouds, rain chances remain slim today and tomorrow with just the chance of a stray shower. Most of us will remain dry and warm for any plans today and Wednesday.
Temperatures will climb into the low-middle 70s for the beaches with the middle to upper 70s inland. How warm we can climb inland will be dependent on if there are any breaks in the clouds these next two days.

STORMS THURSDAY
We’re highlighting Thursday red for the potential for strong to severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our area under a LEVEL TWO risk for severe storms on Thursday. There’s still a lot that needs to be worked out, though.

A cold front will work into the Carolinas, bringing showers and storms late into the afternoon and evening hours.

Just off the initial look of this system, we have plenty of upper-level wind energy but limited storm fuel. Similar to last week, this should limit the severe weather potential. However, there’s still the chance for a couple strong to severe storms as the line moves through the Pee Dee and Grand Strand.

At this point, damaging winds remain the main threat in any strong storm Thursday. An isolated tornado or two will remain possible with enough spin in the atmosphere.

In the latest update, the Storm Prediction Center even highlighted the low storm fuel threat saying “The high-shear/low-CAPE setup with at least low-topped convection likely persisting until it progresses off the coast will foster some threat for sporadic damaging winds and a few brief tornadoes, mainly midday through early evening. How far north and how long the severe threat persists into Thursday night is unclear, but low probabilities appear warranted through the Carolinas”.
We should have a better idea of the timing as we go throughout today and into your Wednesday. Keep in mind, we’re just now starting to get higher resolution data in regards to this cold front.

THIS WEEKEND
Behind the cold front Thursday, we will welcome back wonderful weather for the end of the week and into the weekend. Temperatures will dip into the lower 70s on Friday before we climb through the weekend. Highs by Sunday will be in the middle 70s for the beaches with a few spots inland hitting 80°.
