MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect through 9:00 PM.
FIRST ALERT | SEND US YOUR WEATHER PHOTOS
Scattered thunderstorm development is expected along and ahead of a weak cold front, starting near the North Carolina/South Carolina border and then spreading eastward and southeastward through the evening. The storm environment will favor severe storms capable of producing large hail and damaging gusts of 60-70 mph in some areas.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
THIS WEEKEND
Colder and drier air ushers in behind the cold front for the upcoming weekend. Morning temperatures will dip into the 50s before afternoons climb into the low-mid 70s Saturday.

Lower humidity and a comfortable day continue for any outdoor plans on Sunday as well. Sunshine will provide lovely weather for Mother’s Day, the Goodyear 400 and the final round of the Myrtle Beach Classic.
