Marlboro Co. man accused of stealing car, threatening to kill multiple people

MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - A Pee Dee man is behind bars after he allegedly stole a car and threatened to kill multiple people with a gun Thursday night.

Marlboro County deputies were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. for a stolen vehicle call when they received another call for service involving a man with a gun inside the Dollar General in Wallace.

MCSO said when they arrived at the store the 911 caller said the man entered the store and began pointing a gun and threatening to kill a customer and then left the store. During the investigation at the Dollar General, another call came in for an incident at a home on Hickory Road.

At the home, deputies found 31-year-old Donavan Pooler, the suspect wanted in the prior two calls. They said they learned Pooler had stolen a family member’s vehicle drove to the Dollar General, took things from the store, and pointed a gun at a customer.

Deputies said when Pooler came back to the Hickory Road home he was confronted by family members and during the argument he threatened to shoot multiple family members and fired off multiple shots at a man outside in a car.

Pooler is charged with robbery, grand larceny, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, attempted murder, pointing and presenting a firearm, and first-degree assault an battery.

He was denied bond during a bond hearing on Thursday and is being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center.
