19-year-old sentenced in deadly Horry County shooting
CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - A 19-year-old has pleaded guilty to a 2022 deadly shooting in Horry County.
15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson confirmed to WMBF News that Devin Johnson pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Thursday. A judge then sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
Richardson said Johnson will be eligible for parole after he serves 85% of his sentence. The guilty plea comes days before Johnson was set to go to trial.
Johnson was initially charged with murder and other counts in a September 2022 shooting on Bay Road that killed 21-year-old Tyshawn Smalls.
On the day of the incident, officers with the Horry County Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the area. Witnesses later told police they saw two cars sitting in the parking lot of a car wash before shots were fired.

According to police, an acquaintance drove Smalls to a nearby Sonic Drive-In before he was taken to a hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
Police later identified Johnson as a suspect and arrested him in November 2022. Online records show he was released to home detention following his arrest.
