Police: Louisiana man charged in hoax threats targeting Carolina Forest High School
HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Police say a Louisiana man is facing charges connected to hoax threats made at Carolina Forest High School last week.
The Horry County Police Department said Tuesday that 19-year-old Trenton Brown, of Baton Rouge, is charged with threatening the use of a destructive device. His arrest came with help from the Baton Rouge Police Department and the FBI.

The HCPD said Brown’s charge is linked to a threat that was received on April 24, falsely claiming there were bombs on the CFHS campus. That call led to the school being completely evacuated. Students and staff were later allowed to go back inside after an “all clear” was given by police.
It was also the first in a series of threats against the school in the following days. Police said some were traced to a server in India while others were tracked back to CHFS students who have since been charged. The threats have all been deemed hoaxes by authorities.
“The Horry County Police takes these threats seriously and will continue to investigate each and every threat,” HCPD Chief Joseph Hill said in a statement. “I applaud the cooperation from our federal and out-of-state partners. We hope communities across the country can rest a little easier knowing public safety professionals are hard at work, day and night.”
The HCPD said Brown will be extradited to South Carolina to face his charges.
