Judge grants temporary injunction for house of Conway-area couple accused of cross-burning
HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A judge has granted the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office a temporary injunction for the home of the Horry County couple accused of cross-burning.
The 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office filed a temporary injunction request against a home on Corbett Drive in the Conway area, arguing the home has become a nuisance due to continuous breaches of peace.
The solicitor’s office said the judge will file a formal written order in the case at a later date which will include more details.
The home used to house cross-burning suspects Alexis Hartnett and Worden Butler, but it was revealed at Wednesday’s temporary injunction hearing that the couple isn’t living at the house.

Hartnett’s attorney said that she would not return to the home.
However, Worden’s mother, Janet Butler, who actually owns the home, said while her son is not currently living there, she hopes he can return one day.
Janet spoke during the hearing and said she didn’t find out about the cross burning until the FBI showed up at their home in December.
Her son Worden and his girlfriend Hartnett were arrested weeks earlier after being accused of burning a cross facing Shawn and Monica Williams’ home.
Janet added that after she found out about the cross-burning, Worden told her, “‘I didn’t know how bad it was going to be, mom. I know I should not have done it. I’m sorry, and I would never do anything like that again.’”

She also revealed Worden was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at a young age, and she believes he did not understand the severity of his actions.
Butler testified that people are only hearing one side of the story and that issues didn’t start until the Williams moved in. She also accused Williams of using slurs toward her family.
