Drexel killer’s longtime girlfriend accused of lying to FBI, appears in federal court
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WMBF) - The longtime girlfriend of Raymond Moody has been arrested over accusations that she lied to the FBI about the teen Moody killed.
Angel Vause, 56, of Georgetown, faces three federal charges related to false statements she allegedly gave the FBI. Vause appeared in federal court in Charleston on Wednesday after being indicted the day before. A judge granted her a $10,000 bond.
The FBI claims Vause lied about April 25, 2009, the night 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel was raped and killed by Moody.
Vause talked with the agency around May 11, 2022, and told an agent she went to pick up keys during the killing but was driving in another direction for a different reason, court documents state.
She also said that Drexel kept her cell phone when the FBI alleges Vause took Drexel’s phone and dumped it between Georgetown and Charleston counties.
Vause added that Drexel voluntarily joined her and Moody, but the FBI said Drexel was actually abducted “under false pretenses.”
Days before Moody confessed to the killing, Vause signed an agreement with state prosecutors, our sister station in Charleston reports.
In each of her 2011 and 2022 interrogations that lasted hours, Vause never indicated that she had met Drexel.
It was not until she gave a proffer statement that she admitted she was with Moody the day the crime took place.
Until now, Vause has never been charged in the case.
Moody was sentenced to life in prison for the murder, kidnapping and rape of Drexel back in October of 2022.
Vause has since filed for a public defender and was found to have met the qualifications for one. She faces up to five years in federal prison or a $250,000 fine if convicted.
