CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Eight years later, Cam Newton is opening up about the infamous Super Bowl 50 moment.

“I should’ve jumped on the fumble,” Newton said on Wednesday’s 4th&1 with Cam Newton podcast episode. “Straight up.”

Though Newton didn’t specify why, he admitted he regrets his decision.

“This is the Super Bowl—all effort goes to, like, ‘Yo, Super Bowl energy.’ That wasn’t Super Bowl energy,” he continued. “And I think that is what hurts the most.”

Many believe the play was a career-defining moment for the former Panthers quarterback. Newton, on the other hand, says, “Carpe diem... the words I live by. And I didn’t.”

“That was my time to seize the moment,” Newton elaborated. “But I didn’t.”
