CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (5-4) snapped its four-game losing streak by shutting out the College of Charleston Cougars 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon in Charleston, S.C.

Coastal advanced to 5-4 on the season, while CofC dropped to 3-5.

The Chants got off to an electric start in the top of the first inning when Delaney Keith led off the action with a single through the right side. After advancing on a stolen base and a flyout, Keith was able to sneak around to home plate to score on a CofC error to make the score 1-0 Chants. Maddy Jennings then stepped up to the plate and smoked a two-run home run over the centerfield wall to add to CCU’s hot start at 3-0.

Keith continued to do damage in the top of the third inning when she cranked a leadoff home run over the centerfield wall to push the Chants ahead to 4-0.

Ava Hampton kept the bats firing in the top of the fourth inning when she belted a leadoff double to right field advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ava Brooke Strickland. Freshman Brie Normandin then ripped an RBI single to right field to add another run and ultimately give the Chants a 5-0 win.

Raelee Brabham (4-2) picked up her fourth win in the circle, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings while giving up just one hit. Freshman Abby Henderson made her second appearance for the Chants, pitching her first collegiate 1-2-3 inning while refusing to give up a single hit.

The Chanticleers will be back in action this weekend, Feb. 23-25, as they host Bowling Green, Louisville, and Furman in the Battle at the Beach at St. John Stadium.
