Source: Coastal Carolina set to hire new men’s basketball coach

CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina’s men’s basketball team will have a new leader on the court next season, according to a source familiar with the situation.
That source told WMBF Sports Director Dave Ackert on Sunday that Western Carolina head coach Justin Gray is expected to take the same position with the Chanticleers.
The move was first reported by college basketball insider Jon Rothstein, but an official announcement from the university has not been made.
Gray would take over for interim head coach Benny Moss, who in turn replaced former coach Cliff Ellis after his retirement in December.
He led the Catamounts to a 22-10 record this past season, which led to a quarterfinal exit in the SoCon Tournament. He had been at Cullowhee since 2021 after spending time at Winthrop as an assistant.
During his time as a player, Gray was also a three-time All-ACC selection at Wake Forest. He went on to play 12 years overseas in his professional career.
The Chants are coming off a 9-22 season and were eliminated in the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
